Sustainable Ecosystems: Driving Economic and Environmental Resilience in Rural Nepal
Our collaboration with Nepal Evergreen supports reforestation and economic resilience in rural Nepal. This initiative successfully delivered 10,000 saplings in 2021 and 6,000 in 2022, while providing support for 3,000 more to expand community orchards and restore natural habitats.

Case study
At Nexus, we recognize that sustainable change requires an integrated approach to environmental health and community opportunity. Our collaboration with Nepal Evergreen—a volunteer-run initiative focuses on rural reforestation that creates tangible economic benefits for local residents through the development of private orchards and sustainable farms.
Project Milestones and Impact
Since 2020, we have prioritized high-impact planting strategies to maximize carbon sequestration and soil health. Our operational focus ensures that saplings are nurtured for six months in Kathmandu Valley nurseries to ensure maximum survival rates before distribution.
- 2021 Performance: Successfully delivered and planted 10,000 saplings despite the challenges of the global pandemic.
- 2022 Expansion: Distributed an additional 6,000 saplings to rural regions.
- Local Procurement: Provided support for the procurement of 3,000 more saplings from local forests to further expand community orchards.
Strategic Infrastructure and Future Growth
These initiatives are closely aligned with our work with The Juniper Trust, with many plantings established around schools rebuilt following the 2015 earthquake.
In the coming phase, we are expanding our scope to include:
- Diversified Crops: Distributing 10,000 high-value fruit tree varieties, including Avocado, Pear, Mandarin, Coffee, and Walnut.
- Valley Restoration: Initiating Bamboo, Lokta, and tea plantations in the Kinja Valley.
- Hydro Project Mitigation: Implementing specialized restoration programs for areas affected by new hydroelectric infrastructure.
Our long-term goal remains the establishment of a localized nursery to reduce external dependencies and ensure the ecological and economic future of the region is managed directly by the community.
